Research Statement

Gerhard Bühringer has longstanding experience in several areas of addiction research, including substance use disorders and behavioral addictions like pathological gambling. His work comprises field research (e.g., on the impact of law amendments on the pattern of gambling at slot machines), clinical research (treatment of cannabis, heroin and tobacco use disorders and pathological gambling), epidemiology (national adult population surveys including substance use disorders and gambling) and in recent years basic research on the role of cognitive control and learning in the aetiopathology of addictive behaviours.
